Centre of Excellence in Nutritional Supplements Testing for Sportsperson (CoE-NSTS)
At the forefront of fostering drug-free sports in India stands the first-of-its-kind centre for providing testing and certification for nutritional supplements. Aligned with the vision of our Hon'ble Prime Minister for an Atmanirbhar Bharat, this centre represents a significant leap towards self-reliance and global leadership in the field of nutritional supplement testing.
A tripartite MoU has been signed between the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) for setting up the testing facility for nutritional supplements for sportspersons on 15th October 2022. This is one of the first definite steps in the direction of the nation's initiative to achieve the goal of ‘Atmanirbharta’. This MoU will benefit athletes and athlete-support personnel by educating and spreading awareness about inadvertent doping due to prohibited substances present in nutritional supplements. In the years to come, India is poised to become a global leader in the availability of such a testing facility.
The Centre of Excellence for Research and Analysis of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, under which the centre for Nutritional Supplement Testing is active, has recently been officially recognized by FSSAI (Reg. No. 73/W/FSSAI/2024) as an authorized testing center for nutritional supplements. This recognition ensures full compliance with WADA's prohibited substances testing standards.
The centre is accredited with ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17025:2017 and has received recognition from FSSAI, demonstrating its capability to adhere to internationally approved standards.
